No one knows whether the founder, former president and CEO of Amazon.com, Jeff Bezos, owns Dogecoin (DOGE). Although his company – and leading e-commerce platform Amazon.com – is yet to accept any cryptocurrency as a form of payment, the online crypto community speculates cryptos may come to Amazon soon, and more so, DOGE.
When Bezos followed Billy Markus, the founder of Dogecoin, on Twitter in May 2022, there were speculations the billionaire was warming up to the crypto, possibly integrating it into Amazon as a form of payment. However, Andy Jazzy, the company's CEO who took over after Bezos, quickly dismissed the claims.
Jeff Bezos said: ''We’re probably not close to adding crypto as a payment mechanism on our retail business, but I do believe over time that you’ll see crypto become bigger.'' He added that Amazon might consider in future selling non-fungible tokens.
DOGE Community Is Eager To Have Amazon.com The Meme Token
But the online crypto community has been pressing the retail giant to list DOGE. An online petition dubbed Doge4Amazon on Change.org seeking to have DOGE listed on Amazon has garnered 240,869 signatures.
Investors are optimistic that if the digital currency gets the backing of a second billionaire besides Elon Musk, it could surge to unprecedented levels. On the current (at the time of writing) real-time billionaire ranking by Forbes, Elon Musk is the second wealthiest person with a net worth of $146.5 billion, while Jeff Bezos comes fourth with a fortune of $108.5 billion.
Through his Tweets – which often pump the price of DOGE – Elon Musk has come to be known as the 'Dogecoin father.' A striking similarity between the duo is that both entrepreneurs have a passion for space tourism through their respective space exploration companies. The former founded SpaceX, while the latter owns Blue Origin.
Amid speculations that Amazon could add DOGE as one of its payment methods, Amazon may launch a digital currency of its own. In 2021, the company announced that it was building a technology team to develop innovative payment products for its customer base in emerging economies. The firm was seen expanding its Software Development Managers pool.
